Why MPACT Exists

Developing the next generation of socially conscience business leaders

Tomorrow's most successful business leaders will need more than technical knowledge. They will need the ability to think strategically, communicate with purpose, build meaningful relationships, solve complex problems, and lead with empathy. These are the uniquely human skills that technology cannot replace.

MPACT was created to help you to develop these skills.

Through faculty-led, student-powered consulting experiences, MPACT combines experiential learning with purpose-driven impact, giving students the opportunity to work alongside real organizations to solve meaningful challenges while creating lasting value for the communities they serve.

Grounded in Virginia Tech's spirit of Ut Prosim ("That I May Serve"), MPACT links classroom learning and real-world application. Students learn marketing concepts, apply them through authentic experiences that build confidence, and develop interpersonal power skills employers increasingly value.

The result is graduates who leave Pamplin with an exceptional business education, real-world experience, confidence in their abilities, and the strategic, creative, and human-centered leadership skills that prepare them to thrive in the future of work. All while helping organizations create meaningful and lasting social impact.

What MPACT Does

Linking the classroom and real world

So what does MPACT actually do? It's simple, really.

MPACT exists at the intersection of business education, social innovation, and experiential learning.

Our student teams collaborate with mission-driven organizations on real-world projects that create meaningful community impact while giving students the opportunity to apply their business knowledge in authentic environments.

As technology continues to transform business, employers increasingly seek graduates who combine technical expertise with the human-centered skills that technology can't replicate.

Rather than relying on simulated case studies or hypothetical exercises, MPACT challenges students to think strategically, communicate effectively, collaborate, and solve complex problems through hands-on experience.

Our History

MPACT may represent a new chapter, but the philosophy behind it is deeply rooted in the history of experiential learning within the Department of Marketing at Virginia Tech.

For years, the department has embraced the belief that applying knowledge creates deeper learning than simply acquiring it. Long before MPACT existed by name, students were engaging in hands-on experiences designed to link the classroom and the real world.

Today, that philosophy has evolved. As technology continues to transform business, MPACT builds on this strong foundation by pairing experiential learning with the intentional development of the human-centered skills that increasingly distinguish exceptional graduates.

Alumni In Action

Experiential learning has helped our students develop the interpersonal skills, confidence, and perspective needed to become successful leaders and make an impact long after graduation. And over the years, many of our students have described these experiences as pivotal moments that shaped both their professional development as well as their understanding of leadership and service.

Today, many of our alumni are applying those lessons in careers and within organizations dedicated to creating positive change. Our alumni can be found making the world a better place working with impactful organizations world-wide like:
